Car Battery Maintenance Tips for Hong Kong's Climate
Hong Kong's hot and humid climate can be tough on car batteries. Here are some tips to help extend your battery's life.
1. Keep It Clean
Corrosion on battery terminals can prevent your car from starting. Clean terminals regularly with a mixture of baking soda and water.
2. Check the Water Level
If you have a serviceable battery, check the water level monthly and top up with distilled water if needed.
3. Avoid Short Trips
Frequent short trips don't give your battery enough time to fully recharge. Try to take longer drives occasionally.
4. Park in the Shade
Extreme heat accelerates battery degradation. Park in covered areas when possible.
5. Test Regularly
Have your battery tested every 6 months, especially if it's more than 2 years old.
Most car batteries last 3-5 years in Hong Kong. If your battery is approaching this age, consider proactive replacement to avoid being stranded.
