Electric-car servicing and EV diagnostics

Electric-car maintenance focuses on tyres, friction brakes, cabin filtration, fluids specified by the manufacturer, low-voltage systems and vehicle diagnostics. It does not include a conventional engine-oil and spark-plug service. Charging faults and traction-battery work are separate from routine inspection.

Regenerative braking does not remove the brake system

An EV still has friction brakes even though regenerative braking changes how they are used. Tyre condition, brake inspection and suspension remain relevant maintenance topics. Actual replacement needs come from the vehicle’s condition and schedule rather than a petrol-car package applied to an EV.

Low-voltage faults versus the traction battery

The auxiliary battery and the high-voltage traction battery serve different functions. A low-voltage issue, charging problem and battery-health concern need different tests. A general inspection or fault-code scan should not be presented as a complete traction-battery capacity test.

Model-specific EV maintenance

Cooling circuits, filters and service procedures vary between EVs. Workshop capability needs to match the actual task, especially where high-voltage work is involved. Software or warranty campaigns can require manufacturer support rather than an ordinary independent maintenance visit.

EV Servicing: frequently asked questions

Does regenerative braking remove the need for brake care?

Is a low-voltage battery fault the same as a traction-battery fault?
