Tyre replacement, balancing and wheel alignment
Tyre services cover replacement tyres, puncture assessment, wheel balancing and alignment. Each addresses a different problem. Compare the work your car needs, the correct tyre fitment and what the fitted price includes.
Choosing the correct replacement tyre
Tyre fitment includes the width, profile, wheel diameter, load rating and speed rating. The front and rear sizes may differ, and a run-flat or other specified construction may affect the choice. For example, 205/55 R16 describes a size, not a universal tyre suitable for any car. Check the vehicle’s specified fitment before comparing products within that size.
Wheel balancing versus four-wheel alignment
Balancing works on the tyre-and-rim assembly, adding correction weights where necessary. Alignment concerns the suspension angles that determine how the wheels meet the road. Vibration, pulling or uneven wear can prompt an assessment, but the symptom alone does not identify the cause. Worn steering or suspension components can also affect the result of an alignment.
Puncture assessment and replacement
Repairability depends on the damage location, the tyre’s condition and whether driving with low pressure has caused internal damage. A tread puncture needs a professional inspection; shoulder or sidewall damage should not be treated like a straightforward tread repair. A temporary sealant or mobility kit does not establish that the tyre is suitable for permanent repair.
What is included in a fitted tyre price?
A fitted price may include mounting and balancing, while valves, pressure-monitoring sensors, old-tyre disposal and alignment can be separate items. Compare the same product, size and rating per tyre before multiplying by the quantity. An alignment-only price is not the cost of replacing a set of tyres.

Should tyre prices be compared per tyre or for a full set?
Use the same fitment, load and speed ratings and quantity first. Then check fitting, balancing, valves and disposal. An advertised price for one tyre cannot be compared directly with an installed set that also includes alignment.
Will alignment restore an already worn tyre?
No. Alignment adjusts wheel geometry; it does not restore lost tread. Whether the existing tyre remains usable needs a separate condition assessment. Alignment and replacement can both be needed.
